Chrome Web Store at 3,566 apps

I cannot believe how fast the Chrome Web Store is growing. It is up to 3,566 apps, and Chrome OS hasn't even reached its 1.0 release!

I am getting ready to have a huge party once the Web Store reaches 4,000 apps. How about you? How do you feel about the Chrome Web Store's rate of growth?

P.S. I have had a Cr-48 since February, but I applied in December...

Ah and many are very useful. Still wishing GIMP made a web app however.

Im very happy for the growth. I support and see Chrome OS as a much better alternative to windows for many tasks .. Def. Want to see it grow to its potential like Andriod.

Actually, there's also Pixlr for advanced Photoshop-like photo editing, but you're right: I wish GIMP made a Web app too.

So am I happy for Chrome OS's growth, Miguel. And so are my fellow teens. I love the fact that there are now more games in the Web Store. Even though I might not game, my friends certainly do, so obviously it is a big issue. And for those people who are so busy on social networks, obviously Chrome OS appeals to them. Think about doing your taxes on Chrome OS? There are apps for that. The Chrome Web Store is downright incredible.

I am also very pleased with the growth given how young Chrome OS is.

One criticism, however, is that I wish the Web Store had better classifying and searching capabilities. For example, Google developed the Web Store, Chrome OS, and the CR-48, yet there is no way in the Web Store to determine what apps and extensions are CR-48 compatible short of trial-and-error.

Also, I'd like to see the apps classified by type. For example, is the app a URL to an existing site? Is it a URL to a Chrome-specific Web app? Is it a local package? etc.

Obviously, we'd all like to see more HTML5 and offline applications, but so far, there are many useful apps.

I know. I wish that apps were in fact categorized to let the user know whether the app is hosted or packaged, but at least many of the hosted apps are useful!! And almost all that I have installed myself are compatible with the Cr-48 (which by the way I have too), but that's only a small amount of them.

One other thing: I also just noticed that many apps have multiple categories. Click on the "Productivity" category and you see "News and Weather" apps listed there as well. Why? As this repository grows, poor classification will quickly cripple it.

Good point there too. I already have one News & Weather app in the store (my personal blog), and when registering an app apparently the categories are user-selected. There also is the option to select multiple categories, which may be the problem.
