Ran across this in OMG!Ubuntu and thought it could actually prove somewhat useful for the ChromeOS.
So if you have your music on a USB drive, or an SD card you can plug them in and play them from your system. A neat concept and since it works in a browser it may be runnable on the Cr-48.HTML5 browser-based media player: plays your mp3′s & works offline
The HTML5-written media player runs in the browser (so what?) but is designed to play back your local media (oooh!): your entire music library can be added and played through it (super neat).
Not sure if it will overcome Amazon's new Cloud Player or DropTunes, but it is an interesting option.
EDIT: Concept!!
Can somebody make this into an Extension, instead of an App so it doesn't even need to go to the web to get the latest (or it gets the latest and updates itself locally but if you don't have access then it uses whatever version it has)? That would provide offline music playing!
EDIT AGAIN: Link
Try it out, the link for it is http://antimatter15.github.com/player/player.html and if I am reading it right it does not send your music up to the cloud or anything.
