    Hexxeh build for EeePC 1000?

I'm trying to install ChromeOS on an EeePC 1000 (no letters after the 1000 - it's the original one with 40GB of SSD and Linux out of the box) but I've tried downloading 4 or 5 of the different builds and all of them lead to kernel panics within seconds of trying to boot.

Anyone have any experience with this?

My experience is that Chrome OS Lime by Hexxeh usually works for computers that are less than two years old. I have an Asus netbook made in 2008, and it would not boot Chrome OS Lime.

Thanks very much for taking time to reply. I'm sorry to hear this; I was really hoping to get ChromeOS onto my EeePC so I could repurpose it for my 5-yr-old son without having to show him how to deal with all the extra complexities of Ubuntu.
I guess I'll keep looking for a simplified solution that will run decently on the creaky old Atom!

I, too, would like to hear from ASUS eeePC owners who have been successful with HexxeH's Lime. On my 904HD the Lime version of 2/15/2012 almost works. On booting I get a the AW SNAP page and I can see my wifi. I can even enter the password. Then, when the system tries to access the internet, it shows trying to use the wifi, but fails. Close.

The following brands and models CAN boot Chromium OS Lime:

    Toshiba L755-S5175, Samsung RC512, Toshiba L775-S7355, HP Pavillion DV6-6C43CL.

The first three have AMI Aptio BIOS, and the HP has InsydeH2O BIOS. Other HP models (DV7, DM4, DM1) did NOT work.

I performed the boot tests at Costco.

I'm looking for a lightweight system to put on my EeePC 1000 that features a browser and nothing (much) else - preferably one that's virtually self-updating and otherwise pretty locked-down. The goal is to get some more use out of the EeePC, which is ideal for my son as it's sturdy, small, and old enough that we don't have to worry if it gets damaged.
I have Ubuntu 10.4 on it now but it's sluggish on this 2008-era hardware.
ChromeOS seemed ideal but if I can't make that work, does anyone else have suggestions? I have moderate Linux skills (though I work with some extremely knowledgable programmers) and I don't have a lot of time for fiddling... could I perhaps put some really tiny distro on it, delete everything but Chrome and then get someone to tweak it for automatic updates?
