Time Warner Cable has had an app out for some time, but until recently was only for iPad and Android products. Those who own the iPhone were left in the cold, or rather the iCold. In March 2011, as reported by TechCrunch, Time Warner Cable unleashed its iPad app, which could be used for a variety of things. There are similar applications for other services accessible, but the Time Warner app lets customers peruse program scheduling, program their DVRs to record shows and watch select programs. It also works as a digital remote function.


All iPhone customers were left without the application for some time until now. It is currently a universal app. It was launched for Android products previously.

There are still a couple of problems with the app that people do not like. First of all, a compatible digital cable box is needed to use the application. These models are created by manufacturers such as Pioneer, Cisco and Samsung. The other issue is that the TWC TV application needs a home WiFi network. There are a couple of app functions that work away from the home. This includes DVR programming. Any Apple gadget with iOS 4.3 or later, such as third generation iPods and later, iPhone 3GS and later and all iPads, can run the app though.


More Television apps available


In 2010, as reported by CNET, Samsung had a website devoted to apps that was launched. There are also television services offered by Comcast, Cablevision and Verizon. Consumers do not have to settle on one company with so many opportunities available.


Samsung has challenged developers to come up with Television integration applications for both Apple and Android products. There is already a Samsung smart TV application for mobile devices that millions of people have downloaded. There is also an app available for Apple goods from DirecTV that allows for use as a digital remote, for scheduling DVR and for streaming content.
