Hey all,
I've had Ubuntu installed on my chromebook for a while now and have basically just used it for web/IM. I'd like to get access to the entire FS. My understanding is that in order to do that I have to flash the BIOS, then I can reformat it with just ubuntu, correct?
I'm in the planning stages right now and have a few questions. First off I'll be following this guide to disable the read-write protect then this guide to flash.
My first question is after I get the Insyde BIOS how do I wipe the partition table and install Ubuntu? Would I make an ubuntu boot USB and enable USB boot, then use the installer to reformat?
Also would I get the 32 or 64 bit ubuntu? I know the CR-48 is capable of 64 but the kernel/rootfs for Chrome are 32 so that's used in the quick install. If I'm flashing everything and installing just Ubuntu would it be possible to use the 64 bit version?
Thanks,
JD
EDIT:
Okay so I just went ahead and did it. I covered the thingy with electrical tape, put it back together, booted up ubuntu and flashed to the custom BIOS. It flashed successfully, I booted back up, the Insyde BIOS are there, then it started to boot, gave some errors, then ChromeOS did it's "erasing stateful partition" thing. Now I'm stuck in ChromeOS. I can't get it to to enter developer mode. I switched the switch back, booted, nothing; Switched the switch back over to dev mode, booted, nothing. I can't access the console. I installed Ubuntu to a USB drive and tried to boot to that but the kernel kept saying something about the image being invalid. Any suggestions?
