Is it possible to open the shell command line before Chrome loads?

I installed ubuntu on my cr-48 using the the easy method found here
    (http://chromeos-cr48.blogspot.com/20...n-your-cr.html)
But after I installed it I forgot to set it so it would load into Ubuntu instead of Chrome. So I went on to complete the step where you set it as such.

Right now, you're in Ubuntu but if you reboot, you'll be back in Chrome OS. To make Ubuntu the default, run "sudo cgpt add -i 6 -P 5 -S 1 /dev/sda" (password is "user"). It should be possible to run this from Ubuntu or Chrome OS.
But somehow I managed to muddle it up and now when I boot I am always met with "Chrome OS is missing or damaged." and prompted to preform a recovery.

The main reason I want to get back in Ubuntu is that I have a Bitcoin wallet with ~$100 in it and some documents, I am just looking to be able to retrieve some files from the SSD. I would be more than willing to send someone $5 on PayPal if a solution can be found. Thanks.

Someone please confirm this, but I think if you restore the CR-48 using Google's restore procedures, it will leave the ubuntu partition untouched. Assuming you never flip the developer switch, you could restore ChromeOS, boot ChromeOS, open a prompt, type the command to switch to Ubuntu boot. However, I'm not 100% on that. I think the only 100% safe way would be to take the SSD out and mount it as a slave drive on another system.

I did end up connecting the SSD up as a slave drive and looking through it but I can't find any of the desktop or user files. I looked throughout the entirety of the drive but it seemed pretty limited, like it wasn't showing everything that was on there. I'm fairly new to Ubuntu so I don't know my way around as well as I should.

There's a bunch of partitions on the SSD, if you load up GParted in Ubuntu, you aught to be able to see in a scale image which partitions are which on the device. That may help you pinpoint the one you're looking for.

I think it wipes out the Ubuntu partition. When I restored ChromeOS after I couldn't get into Ubuntu I haven't seen any trace that Ubuntu is still there. I didn't kill myself looking for it either.
To err is human, to really foul up requires a computer!
