Question Can't get account created with Verizon for the free 100MB

I can get through the entire process and it even shows that I'm connected to 3G, but after entering my info and credit card info I get the error that I can not complete my account setup online and that I'm supposed to call Verizon. When I call Verizon they tell me to contact Google. I sent a bug in to Google but have not heard back.

Anyone else experience this same thing?

Just went through the same thing.
I submitted a bug report over the weekend and a Chrome Ninja called on Monday.
The Ninja walked me through a modem reset from the crosh prompt then added a VZW rep to the call to manually activate the account.
30 minutes later everything was working great.

I too had problems. I located the following thread and followed the instructions by the user brian.huot (about half-way down the page). I did that and was able to go through the Verizon activation without a problem.

I didn't have any trouble activating the free 100MB allotment, but had similar trouble when I depleted the initial 100MB and wanted to buy more Verizon data (to tide me over until my 100MB resets next month).

It was a runaround at Verizon but I finally was connected to a Verizon Tech Support area (that's handling CR-48 data plans for Google) To contact the Google CR-48 specific support area at Verizon:
    1) call Verizon @ 1-888-294-6804.
    2) Then, when prompted, enter the phone number assigned to your CR48 (from CR-48 settings: Internet > Verizon Wireless > Device)
    3) At the next prompt enter 4
    4) At the next prompt, enter 5
    5) At the next prompt, enter 4

This tech support area helped me get set up with a paid data allotment until my 100MB resets next month.

    Hope this helps. Good luck!!

I have not been able to activate at all. I try and after about 3-5 minutes it disconnects. I seem to have adequate signal strength. Any ideas?

Yep I tried 3 times yesterday to get this working. I can seem to make it through the whole process (complete with confirmation email) but then after the email it puts me back at the credit card screen and still shows "activate 3g" at the icon.

This reminds me of an xkcd comic called, Tech Support (806). Basically when you call just say Shibboleet when you call support and you'll get to talk to someone who really knows what they are talking about instead of someone who is clueless.

Shibboleet is a play on a biblical reference, "Then said now unto him, say now 'shibboleth' and he said
'sibboleth' for he could not frame to pronounce it right." It was a password, the way the army used to distinguish true Israelites from impostors sent across the river Jordan by the enemy.
