    Files -> External Storage -> disk_1 -> usr -> bin -> *gnome-shell*?!

    Um, yeah, take a look at this screenshot:

    Not only did I find GNOME Shell sitting there in plain sight on my Cr-48 (in Chrome OS), but also found plenty of apt and debhelper commands in there as well.

    Did you run that script that installs Ubuntu as a boot option? I wonder if those files may be from that...?

    Could be, but wouldn't they be on a different partition? And I ran the script a long time ago, so the partition should have been erased by now.

    Confirmative: The Ubuntu partition is still there. Closing this thread.
