Any expectations for Google I/O 2011?

    Hi guys,

Like most of you I'm really looking forwad to I/O this year as I think it may be the launching group for Chrome OS (finally). I was just wondering if any of you guys feel like there is a possibility that Google could launch the OS 'so soon'. If so...do you think they'll be showing off some prototype devices?

    What are your thoughts/predictions?

    'so soon'?

It's already seen multiple delays. Mid 2011 is the latest date Google has offered up, but there is zero chance of that being met. I predict that Google will either make no mention of Chrome OS at the IO event, or set another launch date for the end of this year. Either way, the rate at which both manufacturers and users are losing interest it likely won't matter.

    So what?

I'd rather have it delayed, than have Google release a half-baked product that will kill the name.

Personally, I'm agreeing with Kenny, We might see an announcement, with a device in the Summer.

I was actually thinking there would be a stable release candidate that would trickle down the channels starting with Chrome OS during the I/O event and then end up on a Stable channel sometime in June. In my opinion, obviously a stable release would have to cascade down the channels first before being officially stable.

I agree with ChromePolish in the fact that it has already seen multiple delays, but also agree with Nigel in the fact that either Chromium OS or Chrome OS Dev Channel probably will reach 1.0 the same time as I/O, and then the 1.0 release will trickle down the channels until it reaches the new stable channel in June.

How can I tell? Because hundreds of Chromium OS ebuilds are being marked as stable in 0.13, and 0.13 includes plenty of much-needed bug fixes, indicating that 0.13 is probably the last development release of Chrome OS before 1.0.

Lawl, ignore Revans/Polish/whatever, he's just someone <snip> that thinks it's amusing to join Chrome OS forums for no reason other than to bash Chrome OS 9_9

I'm interested to see what sort of hardware that Chrome OS will actually get. Can it even utilize multiple cores I wonder? I know the Atom N550 is supposed to be a nice improvement over the single core processors seen on other netbooks.

An RC is possible. Although, to be honest, I'm thinking once we hit 13, that WILL be the RC. I'm crashing less and less, and things are working smoother.

Now I have it confirmed: No Chrome OS related announcements at the IO event. There will be Android 3.1 news and Google TV platform relaunch.
