Of course they are talking about consumer sales through Amazon and doesn't include direct sales from Google. In the beginning they talked about this being focused on businesses and schools and not individuals.

The price is killing these things.
I use my Chromebook (CR48) religiously, because I am totally comfortable with my paid services with google.
But get me to buy a Samsung or Acer model at that price, fugetaboutit.
Sad, really

Price needs to drop if they want consumers to buy into it. People don't see it as a "desktop" replacement, more like a tablet "add-on" and don't want to pay the same price for both.

Couldn't agree with you more, Dragonbite

And they still not available worldwide since then...
Dragonbite hit the nail on the head.
Look, Google isn't perfect, we all know that. But I wonder how much of the pricing is the hardware manufacturer's fault. Don't call it a Google flop. It's an Acer and Samsung flop.
If they can manage to keep the systems as light as possible, they may be able to get away with holding onto older low-powered systems like the single-core Atom chips, that get left behind. The price will drop and the savings from that can be put into other aspects like a touch-screen, or updated networking or something.
There is definitely a balance that they need to find.

I'm a Google fan boy, and I really wanted to like Chrome OS. But I just don't get what's the point of Chrome OS. Is it something light weight? Is it something that you can browse the web right away? Aren't those what a tablet is for?
Tablets are better than chromebooks in some cases, but if you have to do any significant typing while out of the office, a tablet can get rather irritating I would imagine.
Plus Tablets have applications installed, while the Chromebooks have almost nothing installed that isn't available in any other Chromebook (and easy to sync) and you can have 99.9% of the experience on any of your traditional computers using Chrome.
I do that at work, so if I save a bookmark, or choose a new app or extension, it is automatically synchronized with all of my other systems so when I use the desktop with the larger screen, it is the same experience as when I use the browser on my work computer, or when I take my Chromebook with me just about anywhere.
