How to set up a dual boot (Chromium & Ubuntu) environment on the CR-48

    Chromium + Ubuntu

This is how i managed to get both Chrome OS and Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my CR-48 Fish. This method is NOT perfect as i for some reason lost root(dev mode). If you can live without that then this is for you.

Remember i am in no way responsible for what you do to your CR-48, you WILL void your warranty if you proceed with this!!

First make sure your CR is in developer mode and has the alternate BIOS flashed onto it that allows you to do a non verified boot. Directions for this can be found HERE thanks to HEXXEH.

While your CR is doing its thing; erasing the stateful partition and reinstalling its self in developer mode and or flashing the alternate BIOS with Luigi, i recommend you get on another computer and start making a bootable USB drive with your favorite flavor(Desktop,Netbook,Kubuntu... etc.) of Ubuntu on it. I strongly recommend using the Universal USB Installer tool if your using Windows! Directions for Mac & Ubuntu can be found here.

Once your CR is done with HEXXEH's method, your ready to set up your CR's partitions. Have a look at this GUIDE. Follow the directions titled "Free up some SSD space for Ubuntu", stop once you get to the second section titled "Acquire an Ubuntu filesystem" you are done following that guide. Not quite sure who wrote that guide but credit for that step goes to them.

Next make note of the partitions in the last step, they were partitions 6 & 7(dev/sda6 & dev/sda7). Remember that bootable USB drive you were preparing!? Time to whip it out.
    • Boot into your USB device, select install Ubuntu.
    • Select specify partitions manually.
    • Scroll to partitions 6 & 7 (sda6 & sda7)
    • Erase these partitions
    • Make a small swap partition if desired
    • Then use the remainder of the newly added free space to make an EXT4 partition
    • Install Ubuntu on the newly created EXT4 partition
    • wait for installation to complete reboot, have fun
Note: Don't forget to take out the USB drive before your CR boots into it again
Note: If you would like to boot into chrome, it is listed as unknown Linux partition 3 and 5 in GRUB.

Anything i forgot please let me know! I am writing this guide 3 days after i did this and its all from memory.

Can you improve this method? If so let me know! I'll be glad to add it in!
