Ah, sorry, must of forgot that. As of right now that is correct unless you get a copy of the linux drivers for your WiFi card from the Dell Website and install them into the build process for ChromeOS, your going to be using Wired only for now. Although, you might be able to modprobe a downloaded version of the Linux drivers for your WiFi card ... But I don't have much experince in both of these areas. (Used Modprobe to install some nVidia drivers back in like 2006)
: o
ooh prfct! That's just what I need, since it won't recognize my Wi-Fi card, do anybody please know how can I add those linux wi-fi drivers for a Dell Studio 1550 laptop? thnkx so much : )
The only way to do that is to install Ubuntu first and then compile from source. You would probably need to check out the source code and place it inside the Chromium source directory (inside the kernel source directory, to be specific), define it in 'Kconfig' within the kernel directory, and then run:
within the top level directory, find the driver, and build it. Of course, a much easier way would be to use a stock Linux kernel (which may already have the driver) in the Chromium OS build.Code:make xconfig
To do that:
This will merge the two kernel source directories' contents. Then, run make xconfig as stated above and enable the driver. But first, you need to figure out the identity of your wireless card. To find out, type the following into your terminal:Code:cd ~/chromiumos/src/third_party git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git mv -f linux-2.6/* kernel/ && rmdir linux-2.6
When you find the driver for the card specified, enable it in the source tree.Code:lspci -nn | grep Wireless #--or-- lspci -nn | grep wlan
woah, ty so much, very informative for anyone who is having the same problem
i have never ever tried ubuntu so idk much at ALL of anything, this would be all new and unknown for me but i guess ima just wait for tomorrow and see what google is gonna lunch, i may end up buying the cr-48 in ebay or their own notebook if they r for sell this week
ty again for ur help
i will have to try it this afternoon though in one of my computersthanks.
Pedro, Chromebook will go on sale June 15, so maybe you should get one? Just a thought.
Yep kenny, I was thinking about the Galaxy Tab 10.1 : o
what do u think? : o
These Chromebooks were actually announced during I/O, and they are the first commercial Chrome OS devices. I already have a Cr-48, but in case you don't I wanted to let you know that. And I'm happy with my Cr-48. It definitely does the job for me and I'm sure a Samsung Series 5 or Acer Chromebook will definitely be on interest to you, since they're basically clones of the Cr-48.
