How can I install CR-48 OS in my Dell Studio 1550 laptop?

Google Chrome OS is only designed to work on specific hardware, but you can try building Chromium OS from source and installing it. However, there's no guarantee that it will work on a conventional hard drive, as Google Chrome OS hints at exclusivity to SSDs.
Also note that the build requires Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (select it from the menu provided by this link), so you will have to install that first.
oh, ok
thnkx
is that chromium thing by the way, just exactly as chrome os? the only difference that it may be buggy at times and different colors, etc
but is the same? with the same features and stuff?
i tried hexxeh but i supposte chromium is way better, right?
thnkx in advance
Hexxeh's builds are just incredibly old versions of Chromium OS. If you compile it from source, you get a version that is even more up-to-date than the Chrome OS Dev Channel (the most bleeding-edge build on the Cr-48) and of similar appearance.
oh perfct
(i didn't understood much because im new to this)
but i want to get it : D the newer, best iso available, can i simply download an iso and run it from USB?
or do i have to do this? :S
Chromium OS Developer Guide - The Chromium Projects
Installing from the source tree would be like running a canary version of ChromeOS, it might work, it might not. For the most part, I've seen that ChromeOS will boot on pretty much anything, SSD or HDD does not matter and while it is a requirement for hardware OEMs, it is not for someone like you and me. Furthermore, I had no trouble running ChromeOS from a Class 1 (0.5MB/Sec R+W) SD Card, with the bootup time being still pretty good (considering). You should be able to boot no problem into ChromeOS from a USB device also if you where so inclined.
On a side note, I was reading the Chromium OS Developers Guide, and I found this quite amusing:
[My Emphasis] - I just built a computer with 4GB of ram that I considered to be good enough for most takes, including gaming. They are recommending 8GB as a base line ... Crazy! If you only have 4GB of RAM make sure you have at least 4GB of swap.
Found out that there are more bleeding edge images on the Hexxeh site:
ChromiumOS Vanilla Nightly Builds
Unlike Chrome Flow, which is based on Chromium OS 0.6 (possibly), these images are more up-to-date (based on updated source code).
It's these images to use, *not* the forked images elsewhere on the site.
Edit: In particular, try using this image:

I'm reading through the Chromium OS Dev guide still, I'm about half way down the page now, and I noticed they tell you How To Make an Official Chrome-OS Cr-48 Recovery USB Key. I find this quite interesting, I wonder if this can be used to install Ubuntu or Windows on a Cr-48 without having to flip the switch, or flash the BIOS.
I would use this image CrOS 0.12.431 as it would put him on par with us running the dev channel builds on the Cr-48. And it seems pretty stable to me.
Thanks guys, I did it all fine, but it's unable to detect any Wi-Fi, what could be the problemthnkx : (
Your going to need drivers for your WiFi card (Your using WiFi on a Desktop System!?)
I would check here to see if any of the hardware you have matches up to the hardware they are using. Although I think your going to have to use a Wire to get your internet access because I don't think Google Expected anyone to install this onto their desktop using a WiFi card.
