Well I finally decided to take the plunge and try to activate this thing. Running the built in software did not work, the prl file floating around did not get it, even resetting and refreshing the modem was a FAIL. I then did the unspeakable.....I called Verizon!

It turns out the person I spoke to was right on point about what the CR48 was and what she needed to do, but it turns out there seems to be no activating my device. They could not even do it manually when I gave them the MEID, etc.

It has been escalated to second tier and I should get a call back today.

The point of this post....if you can't get it to work try calling Verizon and follow the directions to get to a prepaid account (#2). They were very helpful.

As promised, they got it all set up and running. I have successfully activated this morning. They did not ask for a credit card number either.

When in doubt, just give Verizon a call. It seriously took about 10 minutes!
