I have discovered a fix for using the webcam on Flash-based sites! I'm sure some of you have experienced websites not seeing the webcam whatsoever. This will fix that!
I ASSURE you that this will NOT harm your computer in ANY way, but if you switch back out of developer mode, you will likely have to restore.
NOTE: If you get an error "can't mkdir /var/db/sudo" when running a sudo command after following this, do the following:
- Open the shell (Ctrl+Alt+T; type "shell" and press enter)
- Type "sudo mkdir /var/db -p" and press enter.
- Type "sudo mkdir /var/db/sudo -p" and press enter.
Steps to fix this issue:I hope this guide had helped somebody! If I made a mistake, please respond to this thread.
- You *MUST* be in developer mode! (Google how to get into it if you don't know how)
- After you are booted into developer mode, login and go to http://www.techspot.com/downloadget....ade54ccf38c8e1 please save it as flash.tar.gz for the sake of simplicity.
- Press Ctrl+Alt+T to open crosh.
- Type "shell" and press enter to enter the REAL shell.
- Type "sudo sh /usr/share/vboot/bin/make_dev_ssd.sh --remove_rootfs_verification" and press enter; this will disable the write protection on the root of the drive. It *must* be done to continue!
- You need to reboot your computer now. If you are viewing this on the Cr-48, please bookmark or print this and type "sudo reboot" in the shell.
- Type "sudo mount -o remount,rw /" and press enter.
- Type "cd /opt/google/chrome" and press enter.
- Type "sudo mkdir plugins.old" and press enter.
- Type "sudo mkdir pepper.old" and press enter.
- Type "cd plugins" and press enter.
- Type "sudo mv libgcflashplayer.so ../plugins.old/" and press enter.
- Type "cd ../pepper" and press enter.
- Type "sudo mv * ../pepper.old/" and press enter.
- Type "cd ~/Downloads" and press enter.
- Type "tar xvzf flash.tar.gz" and press enter.
- Type "sudo mv libflashplayer.so /opt/google/chrome/plugins/" and press enter.
- You now need to reboot for the final time. Type "sudo reboot" and press enter.
- Go to the URL "about:plugins" and verify that the flash version is indeed 10.2; if it is, you have succeeded! You have also upgraded flash in the process!
