    I always have to click the icon to get it started

    Do you mean that LastPass's icon is grey after bootup, instead of red? If so, that just means you're logged out of LastPass -- it's still running, you just need to log in. You can change how/when LastPass logs you out by clicking its icon, then choosing Preferences. You can disable/enable/adjust the autologoff settings under Security.
