Exclamation URGENT: To Purchase an iPad2 or wait for CR-48...

    Hey guys,

I have a b-day coming up, and the padres are about to make the extremely kind gersture of purchasing my an iPad2, which I would love seeing as I currently lack a portable computing device, but after looking at all the buzz around Chrome OS, I am wondering if they should save their money and wait for this release. But if it is going to take another 6 months for release, I might just have to go with the iPad 2, seeing as it would greatly help with the job I am starting in a few months. Help me out here - what should I do?

One thing to consider is that the ipad 2 is very expensive, so if you can get that for a free gift, that'd be a pretty good deal. Chrome OS devices on the other hand, will likely be much cheaper, or even have a rumored 20 dollar monthly subscription option for the computer and 3G internet. You may be able to afford a Chrome OS device on your own, easily.

But if it's one or the other? I really can't answer that for you. They both have their pros and cons; it's just a matter of finding out which device is better suited for what you want.

I would start with if you need a tablet or if a more traditional notebook type (screen and keyboard) would work for YOUR needs better. Do you want to type on a screen or a real keyboard? You can always run the same "apps" on the iPad just by using everything in the cloud in your browser. You just need to think of your usage, not the "cool factor".

Surely the comparison should be an iPad 2 or an Android honeycomb tablet? In that instance I'd suggest a honeycomb tablet, but wait a month or so as prices are going to start dropping on them fast. Forget about anything powered by Chrome OS, be it laptop or tablet form factor, nothing will be hitting retail channels before the end of the year or later, and you'll be left with a lemon when Google realise that there is only a small market for what they are trying to force on consumers.

Well, I have done tons of research as to whether or not to go with an android or ipad2, but everyone keeps saying that (currently) the ipad2 is far and away the best option for tablets. Can you enlighten me further? Because I will certainly reconsider, but everything I have heard has been a majority pro ipad2.

And anyway, John McDonald, don't believe the Apple zealots, which those people happen to be. They're puppets of (and temptation for) unethical business practices, such as vendor lock-ins, anticompetitive intellectual property use, withholding of source code, and fascism towards users that Apple uses all the time.

Kenny, I am not sure if that first link you posted was linked to the right place? I don't really know much about Apple's practices, but would love it if you, or anyone else, could show me why I should go for an android tablet over an ipad2. Thanks!
