I think native client will be the true test of how safe Chrome is. Native client should provide a level of flexbility that ActiveX tired to, but failed at because it was so insecure. Google's chalking up Native client as safe as JavaScript as fast as native. It should be interesting, because Microsoft tried and failed but then again Microsoft never really adapted to on online world.

I found the ChromeOS nettop that I am going to buy. It is the CompuLab TrimSlice. I hope it is officially supported by ChromeOS

This should not be a surprise for the desktop. ChromeOS is already moving onto TVs and pushing into the Google TV market as Android is becoming available on Netbooks and pushing into the ChromeOS market.

I think a good Nettop would fit the bill nicely for what you are looking for, which is basically a kiosk. ChromeOS would work great as a kiosk, where it would only have to be locked down to go to the specified server and not allow any changes.

If you want a completely separated system to run a web access OS, why not put ChromeOS in a Virtual Machine? This way, once you have it set the way you like it you make the VM read-only so if there is any chance of an infection it would be wiped out the next time you log in, and if it is pre-set to auto-sync then any changes (Apps, bookmarks, etc.) could be done on another system and the VM'd ChromeOS would automatically reflect it once it syncs.

Do you have a link for the CompuLab TrimSlice?
To err is human, to really foul up requires a computer!

Chrome browser is the safest browser. That's pretty easy to see... it's been the case since Chrome came out.

Linux is the safest OS. Again, easy to see and it's been the case for years.

What's ChromeOS again? Oh right, it's linux + Chrome browser.
Not only that the OS does a complete diagnostic/tamper check on every boot and can rewrite itself on the fly.

I love Chrome Os for two things mainly at the moment.

    1) Speed
    2) Security

But I still use my ancient Windows XP SP2 for other tasks such as photo editing. But ever since Ive used my notebook from google. I use it 95% of the time. I use my pc mostly for torrents and photo editing. Though the Web Store has apps for photo editing. Its not great for the touchpad. Gonna need to fork over some money for a Usb mouse

Well, personally I find Pixlr great (see link in the quoted text), though I do agree that a USB mouse would be a good idea for it. However, you can easily find cheap USB mice (albeit wired ones) that cost less than $20.

And if your desktop's mouse is USB, then can't you unplug it from the desktop and plug it into the Cr-48?

When first trying the CR-48 I thought Chrome OS would be good on a desktop. Chrome, the browser, is quick and reliable. So, why not?

As updates progressed, there is still no offline app to use. Office online doesn't work unless you have Office installed locally. Google docs is OK for basic stuff, but still lacks power. (With power, I am certain would come a price.)

So, I've discovered that I like Chrome OS on the CR-48 for using it around the house for browsing, email, quick notes, etc. Now that I have enabled Cloud Print, the CR-48 can now do more for me if I need a quick print from a website or Google docs. It is nearly perfect for that. I'll keep my dual boot desktop for power applications and business.

In fact, I find that an I-Pad or other tablet do not add any functionality that I cannot have on the CR-48 running Chrome OS.
