XChrome – A Google Chrome Theme Manager

XChrome is a theme manager for Googles Chrome browser, it allows users to install a skin in seconds without having to move default.dll around and it allows you to view the author and various other details before installing.

XChrome also allows users who do not have XChrome install to install themes by double clicking the themes .exe file, they are prompted to install the theme, they agree the theme is copied to Chromes Default.dll

Fixes :
o now works with .29 of Chrome (i have changed the way the google dir is found, it should now work with future versions)
o Chrome going red after default.dll is Touched
o After clicking install on a few theme it installed into Xchrome manager but not into Chrome itself.

Added Features:
o Theme Webpage now links the user to the webpage by a click rather than needing to type the url manually into browser.
o Gets Chrome version and path from the registry
o Improved serveral routines.

Re: XChrome – A Google Chrome Theme Manager

looking at the date of the post which is Jan 20, 2010;

Themes in current versions of Chrome no longer use default.dll which can be found in the theme folder of old versions of Chrome; themes in Chrome uses chrome.dll to hold the theme; it is a hassle trying to create themes in this format because in addition to hacking the file, the size of the file >15mb is a hindance;

Themes are presently created in the crx format, similar to extensions for the Chrome browser;
it is much easier to create themes in this format although there are limitations;
skinning of the buttons is not possible, etc

Re: XChrome – A Google Chrome Theme Manager

oh, so this means that these themes will no longer function in the newest versions of the Chrome Browser?

You know, I've been wondering, with the huge wealth of Chrome themes, especially the ones Google's been actively advertising as the "designer themes", do you think these will be compatible with Chrome OS when it comes out?

And also, the huge wealth of Chrome extensions...will they work with Chrome OS or will Chrome OS just be a new slate in terms of content, themes and extensions available for it? I'm amazed Google hasn't really said much about this

I would disagree. I think Chrome OS will be a big hit...but it will not and does not intend to compete with Apple or MS on the "primary operating system" market. Chrome OS is intentionally stripped down to the essential tasks of internet surfing for those who need a very cheap, portable and fast (7 second boot) machine. In other words Google made Chrome OS so simple because of the reasons listed thereof rather than for "less experienced users".

This is an interesting article from the blog. Huge companies are already gearing up to sell millions of these Chrome OS powered devices by the second and third quarter:

As Chrome OS is just another flavor of Linux,
Pretty much all themes will work with the browser in chrome ( like firefox themes work in Ubuntu, Fedora, Redhat etc )

When it comes to apps / extentions, Things may* get a little bit tricky.

For the most part, everything should work fine that would work in the chrome browser on a windows computer.
However, Some more advanced apps that rely on system calls etc may need to be modified ( as linux handles files etc differently )

I would however think that chrome for the OS itself will work fine as the browser may have linux hooks in place to fool things into thinking its windows and allow the apps / extentions to work normally.

As a CrOS Beta tester, I am glad too say Google has gone far out of their sane way too make the experience as interesting and entertaining as possible, "just another linux" is kinda a lame write-up. ChromeOS is a bit more than any old linux.. at least in philosophy.. also, the kernel has a few ket differences, many, many obvious ones, but has anyone who has a CR-48 tried getting your Modem working in Ubuntu? he he.. not so easy! As far as themes go! Well.. I'll let these screenshots speak for 'emselves! screenshot-20110128-042209.jpgscreenshot-20110128-042127.pngscreenshot-20110128-042200.png

these were taken from and uploaded from my Cr-48, over Verizon.

But when they shut down the free service I closed my site. I got an email that there was a PETITION for my site to be reopened. Sadly,
