How to customize boot screen on CR-48 notebook

The boot screen is easily customized by creating your own image.

    1) Flip the developer switch and press CTRL+ALT+F2 (---> key) once logged in.
    2) Gain root shell access with:
    sudo su
    3) Move the current boot screen image to your Downloads folder for safe keeping:
    mv /usr/share/chromeos-assets/images/boot_splash.png /home/chronos/user/Downloads
    4) Create your image with your favorite editor. The current boot screen image is 768x768. You may be able to save this from your image editor directly into the /usr/share/chromeos-assets/images folder, just make sure you save it as "boot_splash.png".

Do you have to crack open the case in order to get write permissions?

You have to remove the battery, remove the tape, and flip the switch that's all.

I get an "unable to remove target: read only file system" error. Hence my confusion.

Sorry, forgot to mention that you must remove rootfs verification by:

    sudo /usr/share/vboot/bin/make_dev_ssd.sh --remove_rootfs_verification
Please note that after disabling this verification, you may or may not be able to receive updates to your CR-48 and I don't think their is a way to re-enable it (i believe a bug is filed concerning this).

Then never mind. I'm not doing it till they fix that.

My notebook crashed randomly, not from this, after I moved the picture but it was lightning fast boot to login. FYI
